It has been a relatively quiet week on the newbuildings scene. Orders for commercial cargo vessels have been thin, with Italians and Greeks the most active. In South Korea, Hyundai Mipo has confirmed it has received orders for nine ships totalling $235M from an Italian and two Greek ship owners. Athenian Sea Carriers has ordered two product carriers and fellow Greek ship owner Tsakos has placed an order for four from the Korean yard, while Montanari in Italy has ordered three tankers from the shipbuilder. In addition, Mipo revealed that it is in discussions with an unnamed Greek and Italian owner for four ships worth a total of $110M. The Ulsan-based shipbuilder said it would make an announcement when the negotiations had been finalised.
