It would be no exaggeration to say that things have gone from bad to worse. VLCC earnings are at their lowest levels since the first week of October last year, just before the boom started. After strong May and June programmes from the Persian Gulf, with plenty of spot market fixtures for each month, the July programme has proved a major disappointment, and it is not expected to yield more than 85 fixtures, something closer to the normal monthly average.
