Nonetheless the Japanese yards are enjoying similarly healthy order books with new enquiries only stalled by the length of delivery times and concerns over material and equipment costs three years from now. While some argue that the limited progress in winning orders for the higher-value types such as cruise ship and LNG carriers indicates trouble ahead, the country's continuing ability to compete in the standard ship types does reflect its still unrivalled productivity.
