'Leading brand' is an expression often used by Dr Karl Laubstein, rector of the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmoe, when he plots the future course of the university in his mind. Established in 1983 by the IMO, its original task was to teach students from mainly Third World countries to understand and implement IMO conventions, many of which had been passed in the 1970s and 1980s.
