摘要

India's Reliance oil refinery may have knocked the wind of Gulf-trading MR products tankers, but the resulting capacity exodus has taken the lid off rates. Freight rates for 35,000 tonnes Gulf to Japan soured to WS 230 last week, with Gulf to India rates finning to WS 240. LR1 and LR2 demand for Asia Pacific (especially Japan) discharge has expanded at an alarming rate over the past two weeks. Available tonnage in the LR range was quickly absorbed leaving the handful of MR products carriers that remained in the Gulf to soak up the overflow. "Most of the small products carriers had gone outside the Gulf trade," said one owner, "which is pulling ballast tonnage in from the Mediterranean, Continent and Far East."
