Erika, EurOPA - two words that are starting to get more than a little repetitive. But the more the situation gets analysed, the clearer it becomes that for shipping as a whole this is one of the key moments of the decade. BP Amoco has joined the growing league of maritime parties pouring scorn on EurOPA's controversial Annex III. CEO of shipping Linda Adamany said she did not agree with the early phase-out of single-hulled tankers. This, she said, would take out one third of the tanker fleet in 'European waters. "IMO is and should remain the only forum for such matters," she said. Adamany was speaking at Intertanko's 'Aftermath of the Erika' conference in Monaco last week. Her figure for the amount of tonnage being displaced from Europe seemed high, but shortly after it was more or less confirmed by perhaps the most complete analysis of this phenomenon to date.
