The world's major shipping lines are engaged in a winner-takes-all battle with the Australian government. At issue is their right to maintain a discussion agreement for the strategically important South-east Asia northbound trades. Australian competition watchdog, the ACCC, is investigating exporter allegations that the agreement's members engaged in law-breaking price collusion and anti-competitive behaviour during recent freight rate restoration programmes.
