RO-PAX vessels and fast ferries, setting the pace for new developments in most sectors of the ferry industry, have also made inroads in the Baltic, home of the cruise ferry. It was here that the idea of the ferry itself as a destination was put in practice, and up to about 1990, new and bigger vessels with better facilities followed each other in quick succession. However, not much more happened after that. Thorleif Blok, MD at DFDS in Copenhagen, believes Baltic cruises could offer business opportunities.
