Buyers who have had their eyes almost constantly on tankers have re-focused on dry bulk in recent weeks, and interest in the Handymax sector is slowly building. The past six months have been quiet for sellers of Handymaxes. The lack of interest resulted from the lure of high-earning tankers, worries over the strong order book and unexciting freight rates for this type. Sales have been scarce for modern ships, with less than ten changing hands, and a couple of resales have been reported, although resale values have fallen by around half a million dollars in the past six months. Sales for 1970s-built ships are also rare, with most S&P activity involving 1980s vessels.
