Shock waves reverberated throughout British Columbia this summer on news of the premature shut-down of the massive Quintette coal mine in the north-eastern part of the province. The mine was due to close in 2003, along with the other mine at Bullmoose, when the contract with the Japanese steel industry ran out. But no one expected an end to exports through the port of Prince Rupert two and a half years early, including the BCR Group.
