Swedish ferry operator Stena Line's directors have revealed the extent of the sector's woes by recommending that shareholders accept the offer from parent group Stena AB to acquire all its shares. The move follows an assessment of current and future trading conditions and comes as a result of the abolition of tax and duty-free sales and the opening of fixed-link routes, both of which have had serious implications for Europe's ferry services. "Despite comprehensive preparation work and adaptations by the Stena Line Group, the negative effects of market changes on income have been broader and more extensive than expected," the line said in a statement.
