After one of their poorest seasons, South African citrus producers have set up a new organisation to co-ordinate exports, replacing the fragmented approach in use since deregulation of the fruit industry. "Unco-ordinated mar-keting efforts resulted in unnecessary competition between producers, the export of unsuitable grades and fruit sizes, as well as unplanned consignments to sensitive markets," said Edward Vorster, chairman of the committee elected to organise the new organisation.
