Niin suomalaisten kuin saksalaistenkin sodanajan propagandayksiköiden, tiedotuskomppanioiden (TK) ja propagandakomppanioiden (Propagandakompanie, PK) toimintaa on varsin perusteellisesti tutkittu. Aihepiiristä on lukuisia teoksia ja opinnäytetöitä. Jotkut aikalaistoimijat ovat laatineet muistelmiaan ja kuvauksiaan toiminnastaan. Myös valokuvauksen osalta näiden yksiköiden toiminta on suhteellisen hyvin tunnettua.%Although the work of the government-authorized propaganda units working in the Finnish and German armies has been thoroughly studied, only very little is known about the amateur photography activities of Finnish and German soldiers during the second world war. Who were the photographers working close to the frontline and under what kind of circumstances did they work? Did the war leaders try to limit their choice of topics and if so, did they succeed? What kind of photographs did the soldiers collect into their albums, and what happened to the photographs after the war? These are the questions to be answered in this article.
