Oil shipments by VLCCs (200,000+ dwt) were 1040 mdwt in 2006, down 2.0% from 2005. Shipments from MEG/Red Sea fell 3.1% to 821.5 mdwt and stood for 79% of total VLCC shipments. Exports from W.Africa decreased 5.8% to 136.3 mdwt. Exports from N.Africa and the Near East rose after many years of decreases and ended at 31.9 mdwt, up 12.3%. N.Sea exports by VLCCs fell 14.7% to 12.8 mdwt in 2006. The two ore/ oilers above 200,000 were dedicated to dry bulk shipments as the year before. Imports by VLCCs continued the trend with eastbound volumes and Europe fell 14.1% to 58.2 mdwt, while Japan/Far East increased 0.9% to 506.4 mdwt. America Atlantic's imports decreased 7.9% to 175.5 mdwt. The graphs below show the volumes of imports and exports by vessels above 50,000 dwt for different areas for oil and dry bulk commodities.
