In light of the review of fire safety currently being undertaken by The Scrutiny Team and the imminent arrival of the E.C. workplace directives, fire safety officers across the country can be excused for feeling a little concerned as to their likely job descriptions in the near future. Indeed, when possible conclusions are considered side by side with some of the problems identified in the Audit Commission report, they could be forgiven for thinking that the powers that be, were conspiring against them. Whatever the eventual outcome, it is highly likely that the role of the fire safety officer will alter quite dramatically.
