About 30 cars were travelling through the Prapuntin tunnel near Italy's Alpine border when fire broke out. The tunnel was closed immediately in both directions and, though no-one was seriously injured, 14 people were treated for smoke inhalation. This was followed, a few days later, by a separate incident in the Frejus tunnel, when a fire broke out after a collision between two cars and a heavy truck.
