The owner and directors of a nightclub in the Thai capital, Bangkok, are facing criminal charges after a New Year's Eve blaze caused the deaths of 61 partygoers and injured some 200 others.rnThe fire at the Santika club -a popular nightspot situated in the Thong Lor district -broke out shortly after midnight. Several hundred people were inside the two-storey building at the time.rnAs Fire Risk Management went to press, an investigation led by the police service was nearing completion, but initial evidence suggested that either fireworks or an electrical fault was to blame.rnCustomers were permitted to bring sparklers into the club, and there was an on-stage pyrotechnic display at midnight.
