太火力発電施設での火災事例をまとめることは、公設消防機関が、消火、調査、指導などを行う際の参考になると思われる。そのため、いくつかの資料から火災事例を収集し、まとめた。また、海外の文献より、火力発電施設における消防活動の注意点をいくつか紹介した。%Most everything in our lives, including our safety and security, depend on the use of electric power. This electricity is produced in power generation plants. According to the statistics of Agency of Natural Resources and Energy, nearly 90% of the electricity generated used coal, oil, natural gas, and city gas as fuel in 2012. The obvious fire hazards involved in electricity production are the fuels used and the combustion process used to create the heat for generating electricity. Rotating machinery, such as the steam turbines, requires large amount of lubricating oils. This oil may be combustible. Record of fires which occurred in thermal power generation plants are collected and listed. Also firefighting tactics in thermal power generation plants are briefly shown. The author hopes that the information will be useful for inspection, pre-incident response planning, safe firefighting operation, and fire investigation.
