Chief of staff nominee General Charles Brown has revealed that the US Air Force (USAF) has abandoned ambitious mission capability rate goals for its Lockheed Martin F-22, F-35 and F-16 fleets, after none were able to meet the target. In September 2018, then-US secretary of defense James Mattis ordered the USAF to achieve an 80% mission capability rate for its fighters by the end of September 2019, along with US Navy (USN) Boeing F/A-18S.
