It is a paradox, really, but it is during the months of best weather that I fly the least. When I first moved to Florida, I assumed that the winter months would make for the most robust additions to my logbook, but this proved not to be true. The reason? Flights during the winter are short. There's little or no reason to leave the warm, stable air over the Florida peninsula. In addition, it is the time of year when we get the most visitors from the colder climes. Over the past 20-plus years of Florida flying, most of my flights during January, February and March were conducted close to home. These have consistently been the months with the lowest hourly flying totals.
