In the 40-plus years I have been flying, I have experienced quite a few check rides. There were check rides for the various licenses and ratings I have earned. There were check rides as a Part 135 operator and pilot. There were check rides as a Part 121 airline pilot. There were instrument competency checks and biennial flight reviews. I am now receiving and giving check rides as a pilot and instructor/ check pilot for the Civil Air Patrol. With so many flight checks, I have had an opportunity to experience a wide variety of check pilots and types of check rides.
