The FAA has awarded the contract to build the next generation air traffic system to ITT Corporation. The award is potentially worth $1.86 billion. The initial contract, however, is good for just $207 million. It covers a "performance" period of three years, during which time ITT will be responsible for overall system integration and engineering. After that, if all goes well, it will operate and maintain the system through 2025.
