It was an AirVenture for the record books. The Experimental Aircraft Association announced that around 590,000 people attended Oshkosh in July, an increase of about 5 percent over an exceptional 2016 show. Aircraft parking and camping sites filled up fast and stayed at capacity for five days, something that had never happened before, says EAA CEO Jack Pelton. More than 10,000 aircraft arrived at Wittman Regional Airport, where there was an average of 123 takeoffs and landings per hour over a 10-day period from July 21-30. Of the 3,000 show planes, the sleek B-1 bomber parked in Boeing Plaza was among the most popular, and photogenic.
