Jeppesen has added new functionality to its low-cost iPad app, the Mobile FliteDeck VFR. While version 2.0 includes about 200 software and design improvements, including the addition of bearing and distance information for all airports in live mode and more detailed information for temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), the most significant update is the added weather capabilities. Weather data provided by Jeppesen's forecasting team can overlay the map with the tap of a button. The data is based on three-hour forecast intervals and is updated every 12 hours. Color-coded squares based on weather conditions provide the pilot with a quick aid for goo-go decisions and route planning. Each square covers a 10 nm by 10 nm sector.
