Crews always had two Lockheed 10 Electras on the Lunken Airport terminal ramp by 6:45 a.m. for daily 7:30 Midwest Airways departures to Cleveland Lakefront and Detroit City airports. But on that morning in November 1963,1 noticed there was only one outside when I opened the office, and the phone was ringing at the ticket counter. The voice on the other end was almost unintelligible - anguished and half sobbing - but I finally made out, "I can't take the flight.... Oh, God, you gotta help me. ... I don't know what happened." "Who is ... oh, Barney? Where are you? Are you hurt? What happened?" "Somebody get me outta here.... Please help. I'm in the Burlington jail."
