The FAA signed off on Sikorsky's long-anticipated S-76D type certificate, opening the floodgates to a nearly half-billion-dollar order backlog representing pent-up demand from customers who waited through three years of program delays. The FAAs signing of the S-76D's type certificate capped an intensive flight test program that originally called for certification of the helicopter in late 2009.
