Daher-socata recently debuted its latest TBM 850 Elite model, unveiling a new and improved panel along with several creature-comfort enhancements sure to delight pilots and passengers alike. With the 2013 Elite model, the TBM 850 has gone all glass, thanks to the addition of L-3 Avionics' Trilogy ESI-2000 Electronic Standby Instrument. Positioned atop the Garmin G1000 PFD, the backup instrument from L-3 takes the place of the traditional electromechanical round-gauge instruments featured in earlier TBM 850 models. Providing data via a 4-inch-by-3-inch liquid crystal display, the ESI-2000 relies on an internal battery capable of providing enough power for at least one and up to four hours of functionality.
