The need for a more powerful CirrusrnAirframe Parachute System (CAPS) to use on the Generation 5 SR22 demanded complex problem solving. It was easy in theory to engineer a larger rocket and canopy. The so-called "extraction" system, which gets the chute and harness out of the airframe and away from any structure, didn't change substantially. But the parachute in the original was pretty tightly packed into the opening in the fuselage that Cirrus engineers call "the bucket." The problem was, the design of the old rocket barely fit into the bucket before.
