The latest version of Foreflight is, predictably, the best yet. But just how much better it is than earlier versions from even a year ago is shocking. Version 5.1 has, for the first time ... drumroll... traffic. The adoption of traffic via the Stratus 2 has put ForeFlight on a level playing field with such competitors as Garmin Pilot, which pairs exclusively with the Garmin GDL-39 ADS-B weather/traffic receiver. In addition to traffic and Stratus 2 support, Foreflight Mobile has recently added a number of other features we love, including Hazard Advisor, which shows hazardous terrain based on your airplane's position and altitude; runway advisor, which graphically depicts winds on the airport information page, so crosswinds are easy to see and gauge (we particularly like this feature); extended runway centerlines (another favorite of ours); and automatic taxi diagram display, among several others.
