The lazy eight involves gradual climbing, turning and descending that traces an imaginary figure 8 on its side. It consists of two 180-degree turns, in opposite directions, with a climb and descent in a symmetrical pattern during each turn. To perform the lazy eight, start by lining up perpendicular to a road and making a coordinated climbing turn. Before rolling into the turn, pick out 45- and 135-degree reference points in the direction of the turn to help you determine strategic points along the way.
