Early Mooneys, including those from the first few years of 201 production, had absolutely flat wihgtips. Actually, there is no wingtip in the traditional sense. It looks like Mooney got to the last wing rib and didn't know what to do so just left it flat, as though the tip that should have been there had never been installed.rnFor the turbocharged 231 "K" model, and then the 201, Mooney's chief engineer, Roy LoPresti, designed a sleek new fiberglass wing-tip that swept up smoothly at the outboard trailing edge and tapered gracefully from front to back. The new tip housed the navigation and strobe lights behind a lens and was as aerodynamically efficient-looking as the old nontip was blunt.
