When Fred T. Jane started working on an annual reference book detailing all of the aircraft in the world, he undoubtedly had no idea what he was in for. During the next 100 years and through 97 editions - the two World Wars interrupted various editions - Jane's has detailed so many airplanes and airplane makers that the company simply says that the "number is so vast that nobody has ever calculated it." Flying has used Jane's as a reference, probably since our inception. Therncurrent editor of Jane's, Paul Jackson, is one of only six over the history of the publication. He was in charge of the 100th edition, which covers more than 1,000 airplanes from 48 countries. For more information, visit janes.com.
