Traditionally, 50th anniversaries demand gold. While visitors to EAA AirVenture 2019 might have missed seeing any of the precious metal at the show, their experiences were certainly just as valuable as the Experimental Aircraft Association celebrated five decades of annual airshows at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA created a special "50th" logo and invited back as many of the show planes as they could find that attended the first event in 1970. To say thanks to the local Oshkosh communities for the support all these years, EAA invited residents to experience AirVenture on opening day at no charge. Some 8,700 people, roughly 13 percent of the Oshkosh population, accepted the offer. EAA founder Paul Poberezny's extremely rare North American P-64 flew during the show. As a special "toast" to AirVenture, Fox River Brewing created a limited-edition "Rock Your Wings" amber ale to commemorate those 50 years.
