The people at beech had a difficult choice to make when the flat panel glass avionics displays became available for piston airplanes from Avidyne and Garmin a couple of years ago. The option was to offer the glass cockpit without an integrated autopilot and flight director system, or to wait at least a year longer and install a complete system in the A36 Bonanza and Baron 58. Beech management decided to hold out for the total Garmin G1000 system; it took longer than expected, but it's here now, and I think was well worth the wait. The Garmin avionics system is so complete and advances the capability of the airplanes so much that Beech renamed them the G36 and G58. Deliveries began late last year.
