I have previously written about the risks involved in flying with a glass cockpit or some of the more advanced GPS navigation systems. I personally had never flown with one, so I was basing what I wrote on accident and incident reports along with comments by pilots who were trying to learn and use these advanced systems. Over the past two weeks I have had an opportunity to get checked out in a brand new Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Cessna 182T equipped with the latest G1000 glass cockpit, and to then brief several other pilots on the system.
