Gulfstream delivered the first G150 last August with the midsize jet exceeding all of the performance, payload and schedule promises the company had made when the program was announced just short of four years ago. The G150 is a derivative of the G100, which began life as the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Astra. To create the 150, Gulf-stream and IAI designed a new fuselage that increased cabin width by a full 12 inches and added a third more volume, making it the largest in the midsize business jet category. And when Gulfstream weighed the first completed airplane, it was under the design goal. However, the design of the new, much larger fuselage was so effectively done that the G150 has more range than the smaller airplane it replaces, and even more range than Gulfstream predicted.
