I had been a pilot in the alr force for about eight years and was trying to get on with the airlines in 1991. We all work hard for the credentials to apply at a major airline whether we come up through civilian flying or the military. When you finally get to the interview process, you are keyed up to do your best. You generally only get one chance to interview for any given airline.
