The freight was loaded into the DHC-3 "Otter" for our flight from San Juan Island to Lopez Island and I fastened my seatbelt. The spring-loaded shoulder harnesses were tight and uncomfortable, making it hard to reach the radios, so I usually left them hanging right behind me where they could quickly be reached, if needed. After warming up the R-1340 for a few minutes, we taxied to the run-up area, C-I-G-A-R, and announced "Friday Harbor traffic, Otter three four Yankee departing one six with a left turnout."
