Boeing's 747 made its first flight 50 years ago, beginning its test regimen in February 1969 at Boeing's production facility in Everett, Washington, ahead of its commercial introduction less than a year later on Jan. 15,1970, with Pan Am. The latest iteration of the "Queen of the Skies" is the 747-8 seen above. It is powered by state-of-the-art GEnx high-thrust engines, featuring car-bon-composite fan blades and an advanced low-pressure turbine that provide exceptional effi-ciency. All told, Boeing has produced about 1,550 of the jumbo jets in the last five decades, a tes-tament to the success of the groundbreaking design. To mark the milestone, EAA will celebrate the 747 all week at AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 in Wisconsin in July.
