"It may not be an industrial revolution, but it's surely a breakthrough!" That's how one of Dassault Aviation's senior executives described the way its newest business jet, the Falcon 7X, was designed and is now being manufactured. Designed entirely digitally on CATIA workstations and being assembled in large part by robots, the fly-by-wire Falcon 7X is described as the first of a new generation of Falcon jets. The Falcon 7X, a large, 12-passenger, tri-engine business jet with a wingspan of more than 82 feet, will be the first fly-by-wire business jet. Powered by a trio of Pratt & Whitney 307A engines with a takeoff thrust of 6,100 pounds up to ISA plus 17℃, the 7X, carrying full fuel, eight passengers and three crewmembers is projected to have a range of 5,700 nautical miles with NBAA IFR reserves at a cruise speed of Mach .80.
