Snow Had Fallen Intermittently all Sunday at Tooele, Utah, at the south end of the Great Salt Lake. At 3:30 in the afternoon, 300 nm to the south at Mesquite, Nevada, the pilot of a King Air filed a VFR flight plan to Tooele, and, after having done so, asked for a weather briefing. The briefer gave him one airmet calling for occasional mixed icing in clouds and some mountain obscurement in central Utah, and another forecasting IFR conditions at the south end of the Great Salt Lake. Salt Lake City was already below VFR minimums. "You can make an IFR approach, I presume?" the briefer asked. "Yes sir," said the pilot, and the briefer commented "You need to."
