Chris hallinan, a 43 year-old self-employed software engineer, got his private certificate in 1992, in a Cessna 152. He didn't fly very much for a while, but things picked up, and he has logged almost half of his 320 hours in the past 18 months. Chris now has an instrument rating, a one-fourth interest in a 1979 Piper Warrior and a club interest in a 1980 Sky-hawk. He flies the Warrior out of 60M, a small airport in Spencer, Massachusetts. The runway is 1,930 feet long and there are no instrument approaches to the airport. The Skyhawk club is based at the big airport at Worcester (Woost-ah), Massachusetts. Chris aggressively pursues instrument flying. He studies everything available on the subject and believes that the most important skill an instrument pilot needs to successfully fly singles IFR is "a solid knowledge of weather."
