Late last year Congress passed, and President Bush signed, a bill that lifts the mandatory airline pilot retirement age from 60 to 65. There has been a steady pace of lobbying by a minority of airline pilots over the past several years to have the retirement age changed, but it appears that action by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to raise the retirement age (it recommends to 65) helped to prod Congress to action.
