Cirrus' single-engine jet, now officially named the Cirrus Vision SJ50, made its first flight in July from the company's headquarters in Duluth, Minnesota. Cirrus said that the 45-minute flight, with chief flight test pilot Tim Berg at the controls, was conducted completely "in the middle of the flight envelope" and went off without a hitch. Speeds ranged from 85 knots to 200 knots during the flight, and Berg reported that the airplane flew just as expected. Cirrus has been "flying" the prototype, modeled within a sophisticated flight simulator program, for some time. The company plans to continue testing with the proof of concept airplane leading to a more closely defined prototype in the coming months.
