Following its repaint in 2016, refurbishment work has continued on English Electric Lightning T.5 XS456 at Skegness Airfield in Lincolnshire. Head of restoration Craig Wise commented: "We have finally managed to complete the cockpit with the correct instruments, switches and lights. While we have stripped and cleaned those that were in the jet when we started the project, we have also sourced items that were missing. The work has allowed us to clean behind the panel and check for corrosion. This is the first time the aircraft has had a full complement of instruments since leaving RAF Binbrook [Lincolnshire] in 1988. In order to fully complete this phase of the initiative we are currently searching for a canopy."
