摘要

Commercial air travel in the 1930s could be very rough on passengers - the aeroplanes were incapable of flying high enough to escape the mercy of the winds and being buffeted by storms. They would suddenly drop hundreds of feet at a time if caught by turbulence, causing those inside to experience the unpleasant 'stomach drop' of negative G. Airsickness also plagued almost everyone brave enough to take to the skies on these lumbering machines. Flight attendants, who were also nurses, were on board not just to serve food and drink but also to assist those who fell ill.
