The 1936 Pattern flying boots are undoubtedly the most iconic design of the five recognised types of World War Two aviator footwear. Look at any image of Battle of Britain pilots and you will see them wearing these black leather boots. They were stylish and certainly looked the part when worn along with the pilot's RAF Service Dress. Many aircrews chose to wear this attire on operations, rather than the bulky flight suits of the time, which restricted movement in the cramped confines of Spitfire and Hurricane cockpits.
