Normally, 'special duties' personnel were ferociously camera-shy. Their work involve^dropping agents deep into enemy-occupied territory or supplying resistance fighters with the means to sabotage the Axis war machine. Such clandestine tasks were best kept under wraps. At Brindisi in Italy during March 1944, the chief of 334 Wing was told to open the doors; the unit was to host a publicity 'splash' showcasing its work. The tide of the war was changing, Italy had signed an armistice with the Allies in September 1943 and the process of ridding south Europe of German troops was gaining traction.
