The Friends of the South African Air Force Museum, a volunteer organisation that supports the three branches of the SAAF Museum in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria, is overseeing the restoration of Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe TE213 at Swartkop AFB. The airframe is believed to be the world's last remaining example of a Mk.IXe with clipped wings and a bubble canopy. The 1947-built fighter was previously returned to flying condition in the 1990s but was extensively damaged during an emergency landing in April 2000. It is currently being disassembled and evaluated.
