I was pleased to see the photos of Short Sunderland G-BJHS at Tower Bridge in the January issue. Some 50 years ago, on November 29,1970 my wife and I flew in the same aircraft (then VH-BRF) from Lake Eucumbene, in the Snowy Mountains, over Canberra, Australia, our home at the time. I well remember the date because it was our first wedding anniversary. The aircraft had been chartered by a group of fishermen from Sydney and did two additional flights for enthusiasts from the lake before returning. The following March we flew in VH-BRF again, this time from Rose Bay to Lord Howe Island, an idyllic spot, for a holiday. The flight took over three hours, and departed at 2.30am in order to arrive shortly before high tide in the lagoon and soon after daybreak. Our return flight was in Short Sandringham VH-BRC, departing at the more civilised time of lpm.
